How to play
- Look at the clock. The short, thick hand shows the hour. The long hand, in teal, shows the minutes. The dial has the numbers 1 to 12 and a tick mark for every minute.
- Tap the time you see from the four buttons under the clock.
- A right answer moves on by itself. After a wrong one, the game shows the right time with a reminder, "The short hand shows the hour," and waits until you tap Next.

The five levels
Each level changes how finely the clocks are set.
| Level | The clocks show | For example |
|---|---|---|
| 1 | whole hours | 4:00 |
| 2 | whole hours and half past | 11:30 |
| 3 | every quarter hour | 7:45 |
| 4 | every 5 minutes | 2:25 |
| 5 | any minute | 9:17 |
The free round on this page is Level 2: whole hours and half past.
Clocks that can fool you
- Half past. At 11:30 the short hand sits halfway between the 11 and the 12. The hour is the number it has already passed: 11, not 12.
- Quarter to. At 7:45 the long hand points at the 9, and the short hand is most of the way to the 8. It's still seven-something, so the time is 7:45, not 8:45.
- Counting by fives. For the long hand, each number on the dial stands for 5 minutes. At 2:25 it points at the 5.
- The exact minute. At Level 5, count the small ticks past the last number. At 9:17 the long hand is two ticks past the 3: 15 minutes plus 2.
Where the wrong answers come from
The three wrong times are common slips. One may be the hour before or after (10:30 or 12:30 for 11:30). One may have the minutes off by a step or by half an hour (11:00). One may read the two hands the wrong way round. So every choice looks possible at a glance. Check both hands before you tap.
How the score works
- In relaxed mode, your score is the share of clocks you read right, out of 100: 6 right out of 8 is 75. The free round always plays this way, and the app starts new members in relaxed mode too.
- With relaxed mode off, right answers count for 70 points and speed for 30. An average of 3 seconds or less per clock earns all 30; an average of 10 seconds or more earns none.
Settings in the app
Account → Settings has Relaxed mode — speed never counts, Extra-large text for bigger words and buttons, and Sounds and vibration for the short tone after each answer.
Questions about What Time Is It?
Does the clock use Roman numerals?
No. Every clock is a round dial with the plain numbers 1 to 12. The answers are written as digital times, such as 7:45.
Does it ask for a.m. or p.m.?
No. A clock dial looks the same in the morning and the evening, so the answers are plain times like 11:30.
What if I get one wrong?
The game shows the right time and waits for you. Nothing moves on until you tap Next, so you can look at the hands for as long as you like.
