Names & Faces: meet the group, then match each name

Names & Faces is like meeting people at a get-together. You meet a small group: each person has a face, a first name and one thing they like to do, such as "grows tomatoes" or "plays golf." Then the faces come back one at a time, and you pick each person's name from four choices.

How to play

  1. Meet the group. Everyone is on one screen, each with a face, a name and a hobby. Stay as long as you like, then tap I'm ready.
  2. Name each face. One face at a time comes up, with its hobby underneath: "This person goes fishing." Tap the right name from the four buttons.
  3. A right answer moves on by itself. After a wrong one, the game tells you who it was, such as "This is Linda," and waits until you tap Next.

The faces come back in a shuffled order.

Face 2 of 4 at Level 2: the woman who volunteers at the library, with Diane, Linda, Carol and Karen to choose from.

A sample round

Here is a Level 2 group of four, made from the game's own lists:

FaceNameHobby
๐Ÿ‘ตBarbarabakes bread
๐Ÿง”Frankgoes fishing
๐Ÿ‘ฉโ€๐ŸฆฐDianesings in a choir
๐Ÿ‘ดGeorgecollects stamps

Later the bearded face comes back with "This person goes fishing." The four names might be Frank, George, Paul and Richard. George is there because you met him a minute ago. Paul and Richard are names from the game's list that weren't in this group.

How the four choices are made

  • The wrong names always match the face: women's names for a woman, men's names for a man.
  • They start with the other people of the group, then fill up with names from outside it. So the choices are names you've just seen, not easy throwaways.
  • A group mixes women and men, and no name appears twice in one group.

Who's in the game

  • Names: 20 familiar American first names, 10 for women (Linda, Susan, Karen, Barbara, Nancy, Carol, Donna, Sharon, Diane and Janet) and 10 for men (Robert, James, Michael, David, Richard, Thomas, Steven, Paul, Frank and George).
  • Hobbies: 12 everyday ones, from baking bread and knitting sweaters to painting watercolors and walking the dog every morning.
  • Faces: 12 emoji faces, 6 women and 6 men. Like all emoji, they look a little different on each kind of device.

Each game deals a new mix of faces, names and hobbies.

How the score works

Your score is the share of names you got right, out of 100: 3 right out of 4 is 75. Names & Faces has no clock at all, so relaxed mode makes no difference to it. If the names look small, turn on Extra-large text in the app's Account โ†’ Settings.

Questions about Names & Faces

Are these real people?

No. The faces are emoji, and the names and hobbies come from fixed lists in the game, shuffled into a new group each time.

How long can I look at the group?

As long as you like. The group stays on screen until you tap I'm ready.

Can two people in a group share a name?

No. Every name in a group is different, so each face has exactly one right answer.
